I am now offering these old style race skis which have been off the market for 14 years. Plastic skis killed aluminum skis. However the aluminum skis are perfect for vintage projects, racing and water skippers. Skis do not come with runners because everybody has their favorite carbides. Use stock springs on the leaf skis.

Now you owners of other brands may ask if these skis will fit your sled. I don't know. Grab a spindle from your sled and compare to a Polaris ski for the answer.

If you are going to build a trick Indy/RXL replica or are into vintage racing, you just gotta have these light weight IFS race skis. A pair of stock steel Polaris IFS skis weigh 18.5 pounds*. A pair of these IFS aluminum skis weigh only 7.5 lbs*. Your sled will loose an instant 11 lbs! TX-Ls and Indys from 1980 to 1994 if I am not wrong.

* Without carbides. See warnings below.

Warning 1
If you use aluminum skis for trail riding you must ...Always use plastic skins under them. Aluminum is soft and will wear rapidly over gravel and can dent from rocks and stumps. Ski skins increase the overall strength and will decrease the breakage factor. I trail rode skinned aluminum skis on my Velocity Indy (see my toys section) without a single problem. If you are going to use these for ice racing you can probably run them without skins but avoid gravely pit areas. I'm sure you will add vertical stiffing for cornering.

Warning 2
Mount steel fender washers on both sides of the ski mount and check bolt tightness periodically. Use Nylock nuts and LocTite on the mount bolts. The aluminum mount hole of the skis can wear particularly if the bolts come loose. Steel washers will retard wear. Even though these skis with skins are suitable for trail use, you don't want to do major air or go ditch banging with them. If you abuse them they will die in time.

Aluminum skis can kill you if you use them super aggressively and surpass their capabilities.
